Music Magazine - Thoughts & Planning

I have thought of many different names for my music magazine. The genre that I am going along with is the genre of 'Alternative Rock' 'Pop Punk' etc. I aim to do this by using a range of vibrant colours on the front cover which are seen as fun and eye catching. By making a magazine eye catching and appealing, it is more likely to encourage more people to buy it than if it was made using dark, bland colours. After coming up with various names such as 'LOUD!' and 'Rock - IT!', I decided that the name of my music magazine is going to be 'Live.LOUD!' Magazines that I wish to take inspiration from when creating my music magazine are magazines such as 'Kerrang!' and 'Rocksound' which is why I have chosen to anaylse these two magazines quite a lot. Both magazines feature bands which I would include in my magazine, if my magazine was a real magazine. Both magazines are quite popular with people who are interested in the bands that feature in the band. I want a colour scheme in my magazine which is bright and colourful, though I still want to include dark colours to contrast against them. The two colours that I wish to be the main two colours that I include are yellow and green, as I think that both colours work well together, and both emphasise each other as much as the other one does. The target audience of my magazine are going to be in the age range of 16 - 21, though if this was a real magazine being produced, I would probably include various articles in the magazine that are of interest to people older than 21. By doing this, it would mean expanding the target audience, but also it would increase the customer number whilst also making a profit. I aim to take images that reflect a 'fun' theme, as this is probably going to be more interesting to readers if an interesting article is also used with the images. By making a magazine interesting, and not boring, it will encourage readers to buy the magazine again, rather than moving onto a different magazine.

Music Magazine - The Brief.

Preliminary Exercise: Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.

Main Task:
The front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text used must be original, produced by you - minimum of four images.

LIIAR Anaylsis Language Language is everything that the magazine front cover, contents page and the double spread needs to contain. - A masthead is necessary factor for the front cover. Usually mastheads are one word, and are easy to remember to avoid confusion. - The main image is an MCU shot, and relates to the main article of the magazine. - Colour Scheme is usually bright, so it's eye catching and appealing, and the colours usually relate to the target audience. - The thumbnail images on the front cover and contents page relate to the articles inside. Rather than readers searching the whole page to see if they can see a band that they like, they can just search for pictures instead. On the conents page, the page number is usually written with the pictures too, which also makes it easier and more convenient to the reader. - The barcode and price is also necessary on the front cover of a magazine, and is typically located in the bottom right corner of the magazine. - A teaser, usually offering an offer or free gift, is usually spread across the bottom of the page. This is a persuasive technique into tempting the audience to buy the magazine. Institutions The institution is whoever has published the magazine. Many publishers publish the same, or similar genres to each other. Other publishers choose to publish a variety of different genres in order to create a 'gap' which could also be a positive thing. Ideology Ideology is chosen by the magazine, and is a set of beliefs and ideas that as a magazine, they want to send out. Audience The target audience I am planning to aim my magazine at is teenagers/young adults who are interested in magazines such as Kerrang!
